This world-premiere musical re-imagines the classic Pinocchio story in the enchanted land of Hip-Hopia. G.Petto, a designer of computer games, magically finds himself with a “son” when his character, P.Nokio, comes to life. He sends his son to the Old School to become a real boy by mastering style, originality, and swagger. Unfortunately, P.Nokio is tempted by The Way of Fun and Trouble, gets in with a bad crowd, and is swept up in a tangle of lies that endanger his newfound father. To save G.Petto, P.Nokio must wise up, keep it real, and learn that words and truth are the mightiest weapons of all.

PAIGE IN FULL is a blending of poetry, dance, media and music that tells the tale of multicultural girl’s journey through hip-hop to self-discovery.
Since its premiere in May 2010, Paige in Full has packed theaters, had exceptional reviews, successful events, unique workshops and sold out performances throughout the country.

The Angle is an eclectic documentary series that features a variety of topics, people, places or things affecting American Culture—all with a creative twist à la Park Triangle Productions. The series explores subjects from a variety of angles or perspectives and covers a wide range of topics, from food and sex, to religion and modern politics. Personalities run the gamut from intellectuals and activists to artists and the girl next door.

Paige will return as choreographer and asst. director for the remount of Kunuffy Bunny by Mo Willems. Directed by Rosemary Newcott. The show will tour through December and then return to the Kennedy Center for an in-house run!

Larry Leon Hamlin founded the National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) in 1989. His goal was to unite black theatre companies in America and ensure the survival of the genre into the next millennium. With the support of Dr. Maya Angelou (who served as the Festival’s first Chairperson) the National Black Theatre Festival® was born. The ’89 Festival offered 30 performances by 17 of America’s best professional black theatre companies. It attracted national and international media coverage. According to The New York Times, “The 1989 National Black Theatre Festival® was one of the most historic and culturally significant events in the history of black theatre and American theatre in general.” Over 10,000 people attended. It lived up to its theme: “An International Celebration and Reunion of Spirit.”

Baton Rouge Hops!
August 12 and 13th at 7:30pm

Baton Rouge Hops, an arts festival celebrating “all things Hip Hop,” will be held at the Manship Theatre on Friday, Aug. 12 through Sunday, Aug. 14.

Between the opening night reception presenting Art, Beats and Lyrics at 6 p.m. on the 12th to the final poetry session on the evening of the 14th, festival participants will experience all aspects of hip hop culture.

Discuss and explore various classroom management techniques and strategies for early childhood classrooms using the arts. Strategies include dance, poetry, hip hop and sign language! Teachers will participate in an actual class with a step by step look at structure, transitions and easy solutions for common class problems. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to adapt and create strategies with their own personal flair, culture and expertise! Make your class run smoothly and keep it moving!

This highly theatrical production combines spoken word, movement, music, and dialogue to move audiences through works selected by Caroline Kennedy in her books The Best-Loved Poems of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and A Family of Poems: My Favorite Poetry for Children. Enjoy the words of Robert Frost, Carl Sandburg, Langston Hughes, Edgar Allan Poe, Gwendolyn Brooks, E. E. Cummings, and others in a special show made for sharing. Age 9 and up. Every organization, program, or event begins with a visionary—a person who sees a need for something that does not exist, or is ineffective in its current state. In our field, we call these people “social entrepreneurs.” Social entrepreneurs believe that because their business exists, the world will be positively impacted. Whether it’s through listening to a woman’s artistic voice, or globally distributing the music of a rural Ugandan boy, visions take many forms. The impacts of individual visions vary but all visions need the resources it takes to catapult the vision from a dream to a reality. There’s no place Paige would rather spend her birthday then at the homecoming for Arena Stage. Paige will perform some of the winning plays from the annual Student Playwright’s Project competition. Paige is thrilled for the new space and all of its future possibilities and performances. Having worked at Arena for seven yesrs, it was also great to see so many old faces return. 10/01/2010 ARTIST IN RESIDENCY!

Paige is an artist in residency in 5 classes throughout the DC metropolitan area. She will be teaching arts through math as a part of the STEM pilot program (Brightwood ES and Roger Heights ES) for Wolftrap and teaching playwriting and performance (Duke Ellington HS) through Arena Stage.

09/06/2010: Paige will play Captain Kirk in “Who Killed Captain Kirk”? 7pm at Page to Stage festival at the Kennedy Center. FREE!

At a Star Trek convention, the actor William Shatner aka Captain Kirk is murdered. It’s up to a group of trekkies dressed as their favorite characters from the 1960s TV sci-fi adventure series to solve the crime. The only problem is they are all also suspects. In a murder mystery that combines humor and Star Trek fandom, the audience decides whodunit.

08/14/2010: Paige is delighted to help Wolfrap create their new STEM/STEAM initiative. The pilot project helps to integrate math and arts for early childhood classrooms. Paige will begin STEAM residencies in the fall.

Paige in Full is a visual mix-tape that blends poetry, dance, visual arts and live music to tell the tale of a multicultural girl growing up Black-Cuban-Chinese-American in Baltimore, MD. Ethnicity and popular culture are explored in a uniquely personal, yet universal, journey through the lens of hip-hop.

To create Paige in Full, sibling-duo Paige Hernandez (writer and performer) and Nick tha 1da (musician) worked with Danielle A. Drakes (director) and Bryan Joseph Lee (dramaturg) to develop a story that speaks to a dynamic hip-hop-influenced generation. Paige in Full draws upon a variety of creative disciplines such as literary, musical and visual arts, which include multimedia provided by Tewodross Melchishua.

05/19/2010: Paige will play several characters in OUR SUNJATA written and directed by Christopher T. Parks from the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ. Sunjata is the story of a boy born lame, but destined to become the greatest king of the medieval Mali Empire. This epic tale of sorcery has been passed down through centuries of oral tradition and will be presented as a completely interactive production for young audiences.OUR SUNJATA is a part of the Kennedy Center’s New Visions,New Voices festival.

KNUFFLE BUNNY

With music by Grammy-winning composer Michael Silversher, Emmy-winning author/illustrator Mo Willems adapts his book Knuffle Bunny in this Kennedy Center commission–about family, best friends, baby steps, and memories that last a lifetime. Age 4+.

Based on his beloved Caldecott Honor–winning picture book, six-time Emmy Award winner Mo Willems joins Grammy Award–winning composer Michael Silversher to lovingly celebrate the heart and heartache that can only come from a family visit to the local Laundromat. Casting includes Tony Award nominee Stephanie D’Abruzzo (Kate Monster, Avenue Q) as Trixie, Michael John Casey as Dad, Matthew McGloin as a Puppeteer, Gia Mora as a Puppeteer, and Erika Rose as Mom.  We mentioned the giant dancing laundry, right? 02/22+23/2010, 03/12-03/16/2010:Paige returns to Arena Stage for their annual Student Playwrights Project.This year the competition received more than 700 entries throughout the D.C. metro area. Paige will be one of several professional actors who bring the students’ plays to life!!

12/11-12/12/2009: Paige will give two special audiences a sneak peek of her one woman show, PAIGE IN FULL at Flashpoint’s Mead Theatre. Artists Paige Hernandez-Funn and Nick Hernandez create a visual mix-tape that blends dance, poetry, and live music to create a fresh new voice. This sibling collaboration delivers a story and sound that resonates with our multifaceted Hip-Hop generation.We follow Paige, from childhood to present day, aided by the musical composition of her DJ brother Nick tha 1da which will carry the audience as Paige moves through neighborhoods, cultures and changing environments. We find ourselves in the basement of the Hernandez home where we incorporate dance and a wealthy music fusion as Paige explores her identity and

shares her love of Hip-Hop.

12/09/2009: Renegade studios asked Paige to return to make “The Quest” sequel for Time Warner Cable. Lots of green screen fun with  felloW actor and friend, Joel Reuban Ganz.

11/01/2009-06/01/2010:Wolftrap has commisioned Paige to be apart of their pilot National Endowment of the Arts project. The project focuses on arts goals for early learning. In the 2009-2010 year, Paige will have residencies and perfomances (Havana Hop, her one woman children’s show)in 9 DC public schools.

09/24/2009: VSA arts is pleased to announce “For the Love of Goldfish” by Ali Pavuk of Waretown, NJ, as the recipient of the 2009 Playwright Discovery Award. In Pavuk’s original one-act play, co-workers Julia and Evan attempt to hide their romantic feelings for each other, along with their respective disabilities. VSA arts will present this quirky comedy exploring love, self-esteem, and the importance of being honest for one night only at the Kennedy Center. Paige plays a feisty, nosy co-worker who is very much into the new office romance. Alst starring. Micheal Sazanov, Lauren Williams, Alex Perz and Tony Naam.

09/06/2009: Paige will play Sunday in Ally Currin’s “Hercules in Russia”. The reading will be apart of the Kennedy Center’s annual Page to Stage festival. Sunday evening at 5pm. Free!

08/22-08/26/2009: Filming begins in Kentucky for”Warrior Psychological Health”. Paige will play Hilary Marshall, a combat medic who finds herself battling with post traumatic stress disorder. Shooting wraps in September in Aberdeen, MD. Check back here for more info!
